AOSafety® Respiratory Products for Limited Protection from Biological and Chemical Warfare Agents

The AOSafety® respiratory product line does not include cartridges or filters approved, certified or tested to meet a standard for protection against chemical warfare agents, biological agents or radioactive dusts. A NIOSH standard for full face mask respirator assemblies for protection against Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear agents (CBRN) is in effect. NIOSH CBRN approved full face mask respirators are likely to be available in the summer or early fall of 2003. The AOSafety® products described on this sheet will not qualify for NIOSH CBRN approval but may offered some limited protection against chemical and biological agents.

Recommended facepiece: Natural rubber AO 7 Star®/Full Face 8300 or OMNISTAR®/Full Face 8400 respirators to protect lungs and eyes.

For threaded style filters and metal cartridges: Product codes 50275-00000 (small/medium AO 7 Star), 50277-00000 (medium/large AO 7 Star), and 52002-00000 (medium OMNISTAR).

For bayonet style filters and plastic cartridges: Product codes 50282-00000 (small/medium Full Face 8300), 50283-00000 (medium/large Full Face 8300), and 52012-00000 (medium Full Face 8400).

Recommended cartridge filter combinations: Threaded style metal R53HE-P100 (product codes: 51490-00000 and 51453-00000) for AO 7 Star/OMNISTAR full face masks or bayonet style 8053 P100 (product codes: 50535-00000 and 50553-00000) for Full Face 8300 and 8400 respirators. These cartridge filter combinations include:

P100 filter to help protect against biological agents and radioactive dusts.

Organic vapor/acid gas cartridge to help provide limited protection against the following chemicals. Please note that AOSafety® has no service life data regarding these chemicals:

Distilled Mustard Bis(dichloroethyl) sulfide Lewisite b-Chlorovinyldichloroarsine Mustard-Lewisite mixture
Phenyldichloroarsine Ethyldichloroarsine Methyldichloroarsine
Hydrogen Cyanide Arsine Phosgene
Disphosgene 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate Taburn Dimethylaminoethoxycyano-phosphine oxide
Sarin Methylisopropoxyfluourophos-phine oxide Soman Methylpinacolyloxyfluouro-phosphine oxide Cyclohexylsarin Cyclohexylmethylphosphor- fluoridate
Methylphosphonothoic acid o-ethyl-S-(2-isopropylaminoethyl) methylphosphonothiolate Chloroacetophenone Chloractophenone in chloroform
Chloroacetophenone and chloropicrin in chloroform Chloroacetophenone in benzene and carbon tetrachloride Bromobenzylcyanide
o-Chlorobenzylmalonitrile Dibenzoxazepine Chloropicrin
Diphenylchloroarsine Adamsite Diphenylaminechloroarsine Diphenylcyanoarsine

The chemical warfare agents not likely to be removed by R53HE-P100 or 8053 P100 cartridge filter combinations include: Nitrogen Mustards and Cyanogen Chloride.

Please note that many of these agents damage the skin or can be absorbed through the skin. For that reason, a full chemical-resistant body covering is also recommended. AOSafety does not have a chemical resistant suit in the product line at this time.
